Mostly the 3 layered sandwiches were offered by food shop and various food vendors in Mumbai. it is one of most famous sandwiches in Mumbai city. and yes, Mumbai city is very famous for its street food and city is also called city of dreams. Whether it’s tea time, Breakfast time, or any free time Sandwich is perfect option for street snacks and this is something special; it is called Mumbai Sandwich.

In Mumbai city you will often see a road side stalls sells variety of toast sandwich. The toast sandwich gives nice crunchy texture, better smoked flavour, and taste is very delicious & awesome that often serves with spicy green chutney and tomato ketchup.

Steps for making Mumbai Vegetable Masala Grilled Sandwich

  • Take 3 fresh sliced bread from any local store, that is available at near you.
  • To the one side of all 3 breads apply butter.

  • Now, take any 2 bread and apply green chutney and spread it properly on one side of bread and on one bread apply schezwan sauce.

  • Add sliced tomato on top of Bread where, you have applied the green chutney on bread.

  • Now, add sliced cucumber on top of Tomato.

  • Also, add chopped green capsicum pieces.

  • Now, for some better flavours sprinkle oregano and chili flakes seasoning on top of all vegetables. You can also use chaat masala instead of oregano and chili flakes seasoning.

  • On top of all vegetable layers cover the layers with one sliced bread.

  • Apply butter on top of sliced bread.
  • Now, take another bread and apply schezwan sauce and spread it nicely.
  • Add potato filling on second layer of bread.

  • Now add handful of grated cheese on top of potato filling.

  • Cover the potato filling with one sliced bread where you have applied schezwan sauce.

  • Now your 3-layer vegetable masala toast sandwich is ready to toast as in Mumbai style.

  • Now take, Non-Stick Gas Toaster and toast your sandwich until it becomes brown.

  • Here, I am using non-stick gas toaster because it gives nice crunch to the sandwich and gives immense smoked flavour of Sandwich.

  • You can also use sandwich maker for making of Mumbai vegetable masala sandwich. 

The gas toaster is very convenient to use and are easy to clean and handle. It is designed to make toast sandwich directly on gas stove.

Steps for making Potato fillings

  • Heat the oil in broad non-stick pan, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and sauté on medium flame for few seconds.
  • Add the asafoetida, turmeric powder, bit of green chili, curry leaves and sauté on medium flame for few seconds.
  • Add boil potato in pan, mix well and cook well on medium flame for 1-2 minutes. 

Steps for making Green Chutney

  • In a small mixer grinder, take roughly chopped coriander.
  • Add groundnut and freshly grated coconut. It gives a nice texture and thickness and flavour of groundnut.
  • Add chopped garlic and chopped green chillies that provide pepperiness to green chutney.
  • At last add salt as per taste and bit of lemon juice that will give sweet and sour taste to green chutney
  • Add ¼ cup of water and blend it well in grinder until it becomes smooth in texture.
  • Finally, your green chutney is ready to spread on sliced bread.
