Recipe of very famous snack of Mumbai- Vada Pav

Hello guys, Namaste! Flavours of India has brought up an amazing topic for all foodies. The post is related to famous Indian Snack. The most popular street food of Mumbai. which is known by everyone around India. The Snack name is Vada Pav. It is very delicious, flavourful and tasty. 

The vada pav is also known as Poor Man Burger. Whether it’s tea time, Breakfast time, or any free time one thing is sure, Mumbaikar’s can’t live without the Vada Pav. Whenever, you visit to Mumbai, you will find shops selling vada pav across the city. Even Today, whenever I visit to Mumbai, I make sure to have street food of Mumbai and specially, the delicious Vada Pav. 

Vada Pav is Basically Batata Vada sandwiched between slices of Pav along with dried garlic chutney, sweet chutney and green chutney. It is best when served with masala tea (chai), fried green chilies, and dried garlic chutney. And yes, In Mumbai a lot of varieties of Vada pav is available. Cheese vada pav, schzewan vada pav, etc. I am sharing the recipe of Mumbai style Vada Pav in this Post.

Ingredients to needed for Making of Vada Pav.

  • Fresh Pav
  • Potato for making of Batata Vada
  • Coriander and Green Chilly for making of Green Chutney
  • Garlic and coconut for making Dried Garlic Chutney
  • Fried Green chilly
  • The above was all the key ingredients of Vada pav.

Steps to Make Vada Pav – Serving for 2 to 3 Person

  • Boil 4 Potatoes, peel them and mash them with the help of potato masher in a bowl.
  • Heat the small pan for 30 sec and add 3 to 5 tbsp oil in pan. Add ½ tbsp Mustard seeds, add ½ tbsp cumin seed in that pan and crackle them until the, some of mustard seed pop out.
  • Add 5 to 10 Curry Leaves and asafoetida in pan. Stir and Saute well for 15 secs.
  • Then, finally add 5 to 6 Garlic and chopped green chilies, for better flavour and to make it little spicy, and ½ tbsp turmeric powder. You can add more green chilies. If, you want to make it more spicier.
  • Stir well and pour this tempting Tadka in mashed potatoes.
  • Add chopped coriander leaves for flavours and add salt as per your taste.
  • Mix everything well. Then, make round shape small balls from Mashed Potatoes.
  • Take another bowl, make a smooth batter from 1 to 1.5 cups of Gram flour (Besan), add 1tbsp turmeric powder, little bit of asafoetida, salt as per taste, and ½ cup of water the batter should be smooth in nature.
  • Now, deep the potato balls inside the batter and coated it with batter.
  • Now, take a kadai and heat the oil at high flame until the oil became hot.
  • Now, gently add these batter coated balls in your kadai and deep fry it tills the golden colour appears on Vada.
  • Fry all vada like this way.

Now, Making sandwich of Pav and Vada

Take fresh pav from your local stores. Slice the Pav without breaking it and make the two part of it. Apply green chutney inside the pav, you can also apply Butter if you want. Sprinkle Dried Garlic Chutney and place the hot vada in pav and serve with fry Green Chilli and Indian Masala Tea (Optional).
